What was David Kinnebrook’s role in the development of the new psychology?
David Kinnerbook served as an assistant, to Nevil Maskelyne at the famous Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England. His job was to keep track of the stars, which passed from one point to another.
His boss found that Kinnerbook’s calculation was lagging by five-tenth of a second and fired him. These mistakes later studied by another astronomer Bessel, started the new psychology
Bessel was interested in finding that whether all astronomers, had small errors in their measurements. He suspected that all these errors in, measurements were individual differences which people have no control over. Bessel named it personal equation because even, among the most celebrated astronomer’s disagreements were common.
Two conclusions were given by Bessel.He stated that astronomers had to take into account the observational power of human nature,since personal perception differs from person to person.
Secondly, if observational skills are being given so much importance in astronomy, the same should be given in other fields as well.A new era of psychology had begun, which studied the perception and sensing power of human, which investigated the physiological processes behind it.
