What was the ultimate goal of the Berlin Physical Society?
The mechanistic spiritof physiology was dominated in the 19th century and had the most pronounced effect in Germany. The Berlin Physical Society was founded by former students of Muller who were in their early twenties.
Their main aim was to incorporate physics into physiology; they wanted to link physiology with physics. Legend goes that four of them signed the bond,with their blood. In the nineteenth century, certain ideas were bonded in a thread. They were empiricism, materialism, mechanism and physiology.
The development of psychology by the use of techniques was emerging,where the scientists used the scientific approach to investigate the physiology of the mind. The Berlin Physical society wanted to govern physiology in terms of physics.
They declared in their oath that the forces that were active within living organism, were physicochemical. Berlin Physical Society aims at bringing different classes of scientist together.
