Apart from the introspection, Titchener was under attack from critics. His theory of Structuralism was being called artificial. The attempts made by Titchener to analyze the mind, by breaking it into elements were not met with applause by many.
The critics argued that the experience comes as a whole and not in pieces. The Gestalt school of psychology revolted against Structuralism because it believed that conscious experience is lost, when it is tried to be analyzed in some sterile or artificial way.
Titchener gave the subject matter of psychology, the conscious experience. The level of his experiments, measurement, and observation were of the highest standard. The study of introspection is still used for personality tests.
