The process of development of neurons is known as “neurogenesis.” The process of formation of glial cells is known as “gliogenesis.”
The adult stage of brain development is characterized by two ongoing processes namely,
• Synaptic pruning (elimination of synapses that are not included in neural networks)
• Myelination (formation of a lipid layer around the axon)
Thus, the blanks can be filled with synaptic pruning; myelination.
