Both methods determine whether or not an organism is sensitive to an antimicrobial drug. The MIC is quantitative; it determines the minimum concentration of a specific drug that inhibits an organism. The Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion test is not quantitative, but multiple drugs can be tested simultaneously.
