A bar of steel is attached to a bar of brass side by side to form one thicker bar of the same length (Fig. Q14.4). You find that when you heat this bar of two metals, it bends. Why? Will it bend toward the brass or toward the steel? Which way would it bend if the bar were cooled instead of heated?
