Solutions For 9780131905429 Chapter 2 Problem 28A

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

Effect of temperature on an enzyme activity is studied taking three different temperatures. The amount of products formed at each temperature is different. Highest amount of product (2) is formed at 350C followed by 250C (1) and negligible product formed at 450C.

The graph shows that enzyme converts maximum substrates into products at 350C, which is also a very close to the human body temperature. Enzyme activity is lowered at the 250C, which is near to the optimum room temperature and is negligible at very warm temperature of 450C. It may be due to the increase in temperature that enzyme activity is slowed down. Such types of enzymes are mostly found in the human body.
