Acid – A solution that has an excess of 
ions is called acid. Or any substance that can donate a hydrogen ion is an acid. Acids are often referred to as proton donors. Acids taste sour, are corrosive to metals, change litmus (a dye extracted from lichens) red.
Base – A solution that has an excess of 
ions is called base. Or base is defined as any substance that can accept a hydrogen ion. Bases are often referred to as proton acceptors. Bases feel slippery, change litmus blue.
Substances with a PH value between 0 and less than 7 are acids. Substances with PH greater than 7 and up to 14 are bases.
