Consider an example, where the market is experiencing a downtrend, as and when the assets are revalued the value of assets will decrease owing to the downtrend of the market. This is because of fair value. The result will be huge decrease in the value of assets and as a result the equity too.
This is only a small case as such there are a lot of adverse effects because of fair value. There are some positive things too. The figures will always be relatively more reliable when compared to book value.
