Here there are two variables which are number of digits recalled
between auditory and visual presentation of the digit span task and
time to complete.
Independent variables : Auditory and visual.
Dependent variable : Digits recalled and time to complete.
The null hypothesis is,
H0 : mu = 0 Vs H1 : mu not= 0
Where mu is population mean.
Assume alpha = level of significance = 0.05
Here not need of testing the variances because we consider two
dependent variables independently.
We use F-test for variances when two groups are are given.
We have given the output of the independent sample t-test of two
variables.
Mean difference (digits recalled) = -0.690
Mean difference (Time to complete) = -48.593
Degrees of freedoms for both variables = n1+n2-2 = 56
Test statistic (Digits recalled)= -1.701
Test statistic (Time to complete) = -1.423
P-value (Digits recalled) = 0.094
P-value (Time to complete) = 0.160
P-value < alpha (For digits recalled)
Reject H0 at 5% level of significance.
We get significant result.
P-value > alpha (For time to complete)
Accept H0 at 5% level of significance.
