The "urban sprawl " refers to the spreading of towns or boroughs over underdeveloped land. In other words, an unplanned urban area that has spread into what used to be rural land.

Trade-off is represented by sprawl are:-

  • When urban areas broaden in territory, it decreases and land uses are spread over a larger area.  
  • Increasing housing density has negative effects on native biodiversity.
  • It is concerned with increasing pollution.

Methods used by the community to control development:-

  • Revitalizing cities and older towns — including older suburbs — instead of constantly creating new townships.
  • Investment in better public transport in order to reduce urban.
  • another way to reduce urban sprawl is providing residents with a sense of place.
