Urban sprawl refers to the unrestricted growth in the urban areas. It mainly considers growth in housing, commercial development, and so on over large areas of land with only limited concern for urban planning.

The trade-offs represented by sprawl are against health, ecosystem, environment, and biodiversity. But some measures have been used by communities to control land development. These are taking permission from the authorities before the construction of houses or any other property, trying to stabilise soil and erosion controls.
