Kidney disease is mostly caused by diabetes or high blood pressure..That time kidney have permanent damage and it will not work..this condition called chronic kidney disease or end-to-end stage renal disease..
Risk factors:
Heart disease, family history, diabetes, age, race, and ethnicity
Symptoms:
Itching, muscle cramps,loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, swelling in feet and ankle, excess urine or less urine, breathing difficulty, trouble sleeping, back pain,fever
Complications:
Anemia, bone disease, heart disease,high potassium,high calcium and fluid buildup
It has five stages of kidney disease
Prevention:
Keep blood sugar and blood pressure under control,have a healthy lifestyle,follow low- salt,low- fat diet.. exercise atleast 30minutes..Do not smoke or use tobacco and avoid alcohol.
Diagnosis:
_ estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)
_ urine test to see blood or protein in urine
_ blood pressure
_ blood,urea, nitrogen and creatinine levels
Underlying principles:
Kidneys are natural body filter it can remove toxins and excess water from the blood by filtering 200liters of blood daily and eliminate through urine..in case of renal disorder kidney can not do this resulting in the absence of balance of the components in the blood..Diet is a important treatment for patient with CKD..proper diet helps low uremic toxicity and metabolism wastes, delaying renal disease.
Nursing intervention:
- monitor patient intake and output level
- place urinary catheter if necessary for accurate urine measurements
-check Patient weight daily
-advice and educate the patient about limit salt intake.
-advice healthy eating and regular exercise
-educate patient about importance of blood pressure control
-watch patient peripheral edema and assess patient skin, face for ulcer
- check vitals every 4th hourly
- check Patient consciousness
- check BUN and creatinine, sodium, potassium, HB level daily..
- provide restrictions on fluid to avoid fluid overload.
-administer medications as per doctor order
- prepare for dialysis as per patient condition and doctor Follow up
-watch Patient for any complications like peritonitis, hyperkalemia, pneumonia or shock.
