M.Y an 80 year old Asian American Man was diagnosed 3 years ago with Alzheimer's disease today he was brought to the emergency room by his 78 year old wife because he wandered from home fell and broke his hip.

In the human life cycle the stage, late adulthood (old age) is generally considered from the 60s onwards. In this period both the retirement and getting older can completely change the lifestyle of most people. During the aging process also leads to higher rates of disease, loss of memory and decreased mobility. So taking care on mental and physically conditions is most in the late adulthood.

Alzheimer’s disease:

Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative disorder and it accounting for 50% to 70% of cases in late adulthood. The brain is most commonly affected so the memory, language, visual spatial ability, attention, and executive function (Ex: Judgment and problem-solving) is highly decreased among them. In this disease the neurons present in the brain (brain tissue changes) begin failing to produce sufficient neurotransmitters, and eventually begin to die off. Most of these disorders are slow and progressive; by the time a person shows signs of the disease, the changes in their brain have already been happening for a long time. Alzheimer disease causes the dementia, people cannot carry out the, they cannot carry out the daily activities slowly they cannot recognize the family members. In older adults nearly 10% of people are suffering from mixed dementia (combination of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease).

Dementia: Dementia can classify the number of diseases and conditions characterized by a loss of cognitive functioning, negative changes in behavior, memory loss and inability to think. Dementia patients have trouble with both short-term and long-term memory.

According to the given situation M.Y is 80 year old man 3 years ago diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and also his hip was broken. So in this situation at first provide complete recovery treatment about his broken fracture and later modify his diet and explains the importance of proper nutrition for Alzheimer's disease people.

Dietary recommendations for M.Y:

2. Total Fat: High Intake of fat may cause high risk of carcinogens.

3. Saturated Fat: Since fats are harmful for our body, saturated fats are less harmful than the unsaturated fat.

4. Sodium: It is essential for the growth and development of the human body. Yet high dose of sodium may increase the risk of paralysis.

5. Potessium and calcium: These are also important inorganic substances which are important for the growth and development of bones and ligaments.

Indications for an optimal diet:

1. Limit excessive caloric intake from any sources.

2. Increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

3. Favour the consumption of cereal products in their whole-grain, high-fiber form.

4. Replace saturated and trans fats with unsaturated fats, including sources of omega-3 fatty acids.

5. Limit consumption of sugar and sugar-based beverages

6. Limit sodium intake.
