Initially, when the vehicle is travelling in a +x direction, the velocity is positive.

However, at the instant when the vehicle reverses direction, that is, it started moving in -x direction. Now, the velocity changes from "positive to negative".

This is because we are taking the velocity as negative toward the -x direction.

You can also choose the conventions according to your needs, but here according to the question, the answer is,

"Positive then Negative"
