Internal Recruitment
If you decide you’ve got the right in-house talent to fill an open position, you’ll be tasked with recruiting internally, which is called Internal Recruitment.
Pros and Cons of Internal Recruitment:
Pros:
Strengths, weaknesses and ambitions of the internal candidate is already known to you. You know if they’re reliable, hardworking and team oriented, based on personal, first-hand experience which helps you in determining if they’d be a good fit for the job.
Cons:
If internal candidate is personally your favorite you won’t examine his/her qualities critically plus he/she might be content to go along with business as usual which can deprive the company of fresh ideas.
External Recruitment:
Extra recruitment is hiring from outside.
Pros and Cons of External Recruitment:
Pros:
External recruitment can help in infusing the company with new ideas, novel approaches and fresh blood. Moreover it reduces the chances of internal fighting and jealousy factor of internal candidate being promoted or hired.
Cons:
You need to hire a recruiter and advertise the opening. This can be time-consuming and costly. Background checks and reference checks also take time and true indication of candidate’s performance capabilities are not exactly known until they’re in the workplace. It will also take more time to on-board an outsider than it would to bring in someone already familiar with the company.
