Investigators use self-reports clinical examination reports, and mortality to measure the effects of certain exposures. Mortality is commonly used in research. It compares data of death experience in occupational group with the expected death in the general population. It can also contrast the fatality rate of exposed and non-exposed workers with the same industry.

Advantages:

From the administrative data critical information can be easily obtained.

By this method measuring of outcomes are defined clearly, whether the the patient either died or did not.

Disadvantages:

Generally various factors can plays a vital role to determine an outcome like the condition of patient, the patient admitting time and the length of time of the measurement.

In the mortality rate the outcome was fairly crude measure and in this the patient can receive poor care but he can survive and in another condition the patient can receive an expert care but the patient can die.
