A bio bank is a type of biorepository that stored biological samples for use in research.Since the late 1990s biobanking have become an important resource in medical research,supporting many types of contemporary research like genomics and personalized medicine.

Genetic bio-banking studies are becoming increasingly common as researcher recognise the need for large sample to identify the genetic basis of susceptibility to complex disease.

bio-banking have provoked questions on privacy, research ethics and medical ethics.while view point on what constitutes appropriate bio-bank ethics diverge consensus has been reached that operating biobank without established carefully considered governing principles and policies could be determinal to communities that participate in biobank programs.

There are many ethical issues arising from the use of bio-banking.These include privacy,confidentiality,security and respect for autonomy. The importance of ethical concerns with regards to bio-banking and genomic research is underlined by the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee.the human genome is one of the premises of freedom itself and not simply raw material to manipulate at leisure.
