The main objectives of decentralization are :

1. To improve the delivery of different services provided by the public sector and also to improve the quality of life of citizens.

2. Decentralization improves the administration and economic efficiency and helps in allocation of scarce resources as the understanding of local needs became better.

3. It increased the transparency as a clear link was created between payments made by local tax-payers and the level of services received at the local level.

4. It also helped to strengthen democracy by bringing the level of decision-making closer to the people who are affected most by the government actions which made a greater community participation at local level.

5. In organisation, decentralization helped employees to have authority and autonomy directly in their hands, rather than the older system of having a rigidly hierarchical system and passing all decisions through that.
