Informal health care is the care provided by individuals who have not received recognised formal education and have some knowledge from apprenticeship, seminars and workshops. They are not typically registered woth any regulatory body and operate outside the regulation and registration by government agencies.

scope of Informal health care is dependent on familarity of health care provider in local society, availability of formal health care, influence of cultural traditions. Most of the research studies have shown the poor quality of services provided by them.

There are three principal reasons for increased use of informal health care :convenience, affordability, and social and cultural effects.these informal providers have flexible working hours and provide rapid service.

they are one stop shop and provide medicines for many disease categories so convenient for local people instead of formal health care where they have to find specialist.

Lower prices charged by them is also one reason for increased use of informal healthcare.formal providers charge for diagnostics, procedures, and fees,

IPs often possess social and cultural advantages over formal private and public providers due to their status in the community.IPs offer a more trustworthy and stable environment, where staff are part of the community and reputations are well established. Traditional birth attendants (TBAs) play a role in pre- and post- natal care that ranges from acting as the sole caregiver to supporting trained birth attendantsTBA is simply a family member while in other cases she practices regularly and relies on the work for an income

Policy makers should formulate education interventions including capacity building exercises and training programs for these providers so as to improve quality of care.

Policies regarding regulation, registeration and enforcement of these providers should be formulated to keep check on them.

governments and researchers should recognize the social or cultural value of these informal providers which put them in demand.
