Question

on 29 of 31> Suppose a fast-pitch softball player does a windmill pitch, moving her hand through a circular arc with her arm straight. She releases the ball at a speed of 29.4 m/s (about 65.8 mph). Just before the ball leaves her hand, the balls radial acceleration is 4230 m/s. What is the length of her arm from the pivot point at her shoulder? length TOOLS

Answer #1

here,

the speed of ball , v = 29.4 m/s

let the length of her arm from the pivot point be r

the radial accelration , a = v^2 /r

4230 = 29.4^2 /r

solving for r

r = 0.204 m

the length of her arm from the pivot point is 0.204 m
