The acceleration due to gravity on earth is denoted by g.

The acceleration due to gravity is the acceleration produced in the freely falling body due to the influence of the gravitational pull of the earth. So the gravitational pull on the body of mass m will give its weight, W=mg.

Without g there will be no gravity and particles will float freely as in the space.
