Answer #1

Companies that market carnitine and protein supplements claim that more of protein is needed for achieving and maintaining an athletic body. They also claim that by taking their products, anyone can achieve an athletic and leaner body. But this is only partially true. Through carnitine and protein powders we can track the intake of quatity of protein consumed and is readily available, but protein powders lacks the nutrition readily available in the natural protein containing foods such as iron lean beaf, healthy fats in salmon, calcium in yogurt, vitamin B contents in whole wheat. The full truth is that apart from taking protein supplements, it is also necessary to do strength training so that the protein that we take as supplements is utilized only for developing lean muscle mass.

An average individual requires an average of 0.8 per pound per day and endurance athlete requires 1.2 to 1.4 grams of proteins. This required amount of protein is readily supplied by the food consumption. The excess protein supplied through the amino acid supplements can cause dehydration because it need more water to rid the body of the byproducts of protein metabolism. Along with this the amino acid supplements can cause weight gain, amino acid imbalance, altered the kidney functions because kidney should work hard to excrete the protein and causes osteoporosis (low bone density). This is the reason amino acid supplements are not recommended to athletes.
