Nursing theory is the term given to the body of knowledge that is used to support nursing practice .

Nursing models are constructed of theories and concepts .

They are used to help nurses assess ,plan and impliment patient care by providing a framework within which to work .

Nursing models also help to achieve uniformity and seamless care .

Role of nurse leader :

The role of nurse leaders is important ,health care experts encourage all members of the interpersonal dynamics to enable better integration and implementation of change to improve outcomes .

Nurse leader must be able to build strong and collaborative interprofessional partnerships and lead to complex change .

Nurse leadership style should promote interprofessional collaboration ,transform the team ,inspire them to want to do more ,and support innovative ideas .this require a great deal of courage and determination.

2) model of care:

A model of care is defines the way health services are delivered .it outlines best practice care and services for a person ,population group or patient cohort as they progress through the stages of condition ,injury or event.

PRIMARY NURSING CARE MODEL :

Primary nursing is also known as relationship base nursing

Primary nursing is one type of patient care delivery that require a one to one relationship between RN and patient with responsibility for planning and managing care clearly established .

An integral part of primary nurse is to establish clear communication ,among the patient ,physician ,associate nurses and other team members.

Advantages :

  • Job satisfaction is high
  • High quality ,holistic patient care.
  • Establish rapport with patient
  • RN feels challenged and rewarded .

Disadvantages :

  • Primary nurse must be able to practice with a high degree of responsibility and autonomy
  • RN must accept 24 hour responsibility

decreased ratio of RN nurses .

  • May not be possible with shortage of nurses .
  • Not cost effective .
