A metal cup of mass M = 590 g hangs on a light rod. There is an shaft at the end of the rod that allows the rod to rotate freely and smoothly around the shaft. Rod length is = 1.1 m. The Baseball pitcher throws the ball (mass m = 147 g) exactly into the cup where it will remain.

Determine the speed vmax at which the ball should come into the cup to rotate it all the way around its axis. The ball does not fall from the cup.

Here minimum kinatic energy should be such that, the combined system of cup and ball should reach the top of circular path that it will trace. Hence whole kinatic energy should be equal to change in potential energy between bottom and top position
