2.a.

Philosophy of mental health care is characterised as the investigation of the existence, knowledge and ethics as they apply to mental health care. Banner and Thornton argue that the philosophy of mental health care should be oriented around practice.

The four areas for the philosophy of mental health care are as follows:

  • about human consciousness and the relationship between mind and brain.
  • whether mental illness is a disease
  • understanding the subjective experience of mental distress
  • ethical issues in psychiatry especially coercion and care.

2.b.

  • respect and trust

all people have the right to be heard and treated with respect, protect their privacy and should keep their records confidentially.

  • resilience

enhance the wellbeing of individual and community and strengthen the diversity of cultural value.

  • responsibility

feedback should be honest and reasonable; the information provided should be high quality and evidence-based.use every opportunity to make a positive impact.

  • reflection and action

should be more knowledgeable about relevant cultural and mental health research; make a well informed decision.

  • unity and diversity

improve mental health literacy in the community and promote human rights including those with mental illness and their careers.
