Identify the type of data (level of measurement) for each of the following variables: 1. _____________________ Temperature (in degrees Celsius) 2. _____________________ Level of education (completed high school, some college, undergraduate degree, etc.) 3. _____________________ Name of respondent’s favorite sports team 4. _____________________ Blood Alcohol Concentration 5. _____________________ Kelly Blue Book vehicle condition 6. _____________________ Hair color 7. _____________________ Speed (in mph) 8. _____________________ Gender 9. _____________________ Level of satisfaction (as measured on the Likert scale) 10. _____________________ Sales tax rate (as a percentage)
Level of data can be categorised in 4 ways
Nominal data
Where data is used as just a label, cannot be used for any statistical analysis.
Ordinal data level of measurement
Where data value has a meaningful order. Like order of school education.
Interval data
Where data is in form of interval and we can get the significant difference between them
Ratio scale
Where data is in form of ratio where you can measure variable in another form of variable.
Now you will get your answer easily
1) temperature in Celsius
It has no meaning order so comes under NOMINAL DATA
2)level of education
It comes under ORDINAL DATA
Where graduate is higher than under graduate which is higher than high school....
3) name of respondent's favourite sports team
Comes under NOMINAL DATA because it has no meaning order, only a label for respondents.
4) blood alcohol concentration
It is percentage of alcohol in blood so it comes under RATIO DATA
5) kelly blue book vehicle condition
Comes under NOMINAL DATA
6) hair colour
Comes under NOMINAL DATA as it shows label for every person.
7) speed in mph comes under RATIO DATA where we can measure it in form of distance per hour/minutes of time.....
8) gender comes under NOMINAL DATA As it is label of that person.
9) level of satisfaction comes under INTERVAL DATA where your satisfaction comes under 0-10 10-20.... and so on
10) sales tax rate .. it is a rate so comes under RATIO DATA
Thanks....
