Answer #1

ANSWER.

a) Calculation of IV rate for the bolus order.

         Rate (ml/hr) = Volume(ml) /Time(hr).

Calculation of volume(ml)

              Volume(ml) = Desired dose(D)/Dose in hand(H) * Quantity(Q).

   Here

        Desired dose(D) = 1 gm.

       Dose in hand(H) = 40 gm.

           Quantity (Q) = 100 ml.

   As per above formula

             Volume(ml) = D/H *Q

                                 = 1/40 * 100

                                 = 0.025 * 100

                                 = 2.5 ml.

             Time(hr) = 0.33 hr (20 min)

     So

            Rate(ml/hr) = 2.5 / 0.33

                               = 7.6 ml/hr.

b) Calculation of IV rate for continuous infusion.

           Rate(ml/hr) = Volume(ml) / Time(hr)

      Calculation of volume

            Volume(ml/hr) = Desired dose(D) / Dose in hand(H) * Quantity(Q)

Here

       Desired dose(D) = 1 gm/hr.

       Dose in hand(H) = 40 gm

          Quantity (Q) = 100 ml

As per above formula

       Volume(ml) of drug required = D/H * Q

                                                     = 1/40 * 100

                                                     = 0.025 * 100

                                                     = 2.5 ml

                         Time(hr) = 1 hr.

   So

                Rate(ml/hr) = 2.5 ml/hr.
