One of the global chronic diseases presented in the World Health Organization (WHO) website is childhood obesity. WHO identifies some of the significant areas of actions towards ending childhood obesity as pregnancy care, restrictions on promotional marketing, monitoring child obesity, and promoting physical activity and providing health education.

Some governments including Singapore have developed practice guidelines for obesity and recommendations on weight management before, during, and after pregnancy. Other governments have implemented WHO's Guidance on Ending the Inappropriate Promotion of Foods for Infants and Young Children Implementation Manual. For instance, Kuwait has banned the promotion of complementary foods for infants below six months.

A majority of the available childhood obesity prevention programs seek to educate the general public on the importance of a healthy diet for children. According to Karnik & Kanekar (2012), healthcare professionals advise parents about healthy diets. Equally, the relevant authorities control the advertisement of foods including having food vendors provide correct calorie-readable food labels. In some states, schools have adopted nutritional criteria for all foods.

Children should be supported by food environments where the healthy choice is an easy and affordable choice and they need to be protected from exposure to powerful marketing of foods and beverages.School-based health surveys have found a third of adolescents in many high and middle income countries say they are drinking atleast one sugary drink every day.Inorder to properly understand the nutritional content involved in the food products ,nutritional information must be required to be shown in front of pack labelling.

Monitoring childrens health and body weight will help toevaluate a countrys childhood obesity strategy,both for prevention and treatment.Almost all countries track child growth in early childhood,and a significant number monitor obesity indicators during later childhood and adolescence.Inaddition ,countries are recognising the need to monitor and report on their policy developments for traking childhood obesity,improving health and meeting the targets for reducing non communicable disease.Schools offer an important opportunity to address childhood obesity by improving the children and adolescents nutrition through providing healthy food and drinking options,promoting physical activity and providing health education.
