Cystic fibrosis

• It is disease of exocrine gland causes multi organ dysfunction characterized by respiratory infection and pancreatic enzyme insufficiency.
• It is caused by defect in cystic fibrosis gene which causes decreased secretion of chloride and increased reabsorption of sodium and water across epithelial cells.
• It causes decreased hydration of mucus and thick mucus in respiratory tract, pancrease, GI tract, sweat gland and other exocrine gland.
