Soaps (Ivory) are sodium salt of carboxylic acids (stearate), whereas detergents are salts of aryl sulfonates. Because sulfonic acid is a stronger acid than than carboxylic acids, hence no precipitation in acidic solutions. In addition alkyl and aryl sulfonates do not form insoluble salts in the presence of hard water containing salt ions like Mg2+, Ca2+. The synthetic detergents remain soluble in both acidic and as well as in hard water.

Answer: Detergent solution (beaker 2 & 3) cleaned the cloth strip the best.
