*Electronic Health Records are the portions of a patient's medical records that are stored in a computer system as well as the functional benefits derived from having an electronic health record.

*Interoperability is the ability of two or more systems to pass info and to USE the exchanged info.

*Interoperability refers to the architecture or standards that make it possible for different EHR systems to exchange information between providers. It allows for better workflows, reduced ambiguity and improves the quality of care by making the right data available at the right time to the right doctor.

*Interoperability is not possible without standards.

*Standards mean an agreement to use protocol, term or other criteria formally approved by nationally or internationally recognized professional trade association or governmental body.

*An EHR can be created or managed by authorized clinicians across more than 1 health care organization.

*Interoperability is so important because it ensures that doctors, surgeons, and other medical providers have the information that they need in order to provide sufficient care. There's the importance of being able to send, receive, fine, and integrate all of the data that is received from another location.
