Submit a paper which compares and contrasts two mental health theories: compare humanistic theory and psychoanalytic theory

Psychoanalytic theory:

The Freud believed that making the unconscious to
conscious can help the client in resolving conflicts,
he says that unconscious plays prominent role in
behaviour change. He believed that individuals
behaviours related to past childhood experience
and unconscious.

Humanistic theory believes that the individual has
the choice to choose what he wants, and also
potential and abilities to change his/her specific
behaviour. it emphasis on individual actions due to
real and ideal self. The influential psychologists in
developing humanistic theories are Abraham
Maslow and CarlsRogers. Carl Rogers emphasised
on real self and ideal self, whereas Maslow focused
on needs and importance of selfracmaliza‘ion
stage.

Case study:

A 29 year old women Linda approached a
psychologist as she was having dreams of killing
herdaughter with knife The client is disturbed from
past 1 month a lot due to this dreams, and she is
scared to sleep and feeling anxious and guilty how
can she kill her own daughter. The client is feeling
very low and don't know how to stopthe dreams.

Presenting concerns :

. Anxiety before going to sleep
. Feeling guilty

Psychoanalysis of Linda's case:

doesn‘t work, according to the client's issue we

need identity which approach is suitable to resolve
contlict.
