Ans 1: The carers and families have an important role to support the person with a disability. The role of carer and families are helping with all daily living tasks such as feeding, going to the toilet, bathing, dressing, and taking medicines. By performing the role of carer anyone can support a person with a disability to access an opportunity to establish connections.

  • Assist a person with a disability to identify strengths, preferences, and requirements for social engagement
  • Provide information on community participation to meet the requirements of the person with a disability
  • Identify and access appropriate community participation options and services according to the person’s needs
  • Recognize and accommodate the cultural and religious needs of the person with a disability

Ans 2:

WHO definition of barriers: “Factors in a person’s environment that, through their absence or presence, limit functioning and create disability.

These include aspects such as:

  • a physical environment that is not accessible,
  • lack of relevant assistive technology (assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices),
  • negative attitudes of people towards disability,
  • services, systems, and policies that are either nonexistent or that hinder the involvement of all people with a health condition in all areas of life

Ans 3: Sporting activities can include water- and land-based sports with participation in specifically designed groups for people with disability, or in open or mixed settings or competitions.
