After you review the designs, describe which research design you would expect to find when searching for evidence relevant to your own research question from Week 2. Why? Explain your answer.

The most common sampling method is the convenience sample; therefore, many of the studies that you find for evidence use this sampling method. What are the implications for using a convenience sample on the way you interpret and use the findings? Compare qualitative and quantitative research designs and outline when one would be more appropriate than the other. Now, reflect on your chosen nursing clinical issue. My topic i chose: is handwashing effective against nosocomial infections in hospitals or nursing homes

Summarize why you think one research design will work best for your research question. Because handwashing is the standard, you may want to focus your intervention on increasing compliance with the standard.

thank you in advance

Answer #1

Experimental Design will be used fo the research question which is given . The intervention which is identified to prevent nosocomial infection is hand washing . The independent variable is hand washing and dependent variable is nosocomial infection . The study design can include the intervention (hand washing),a control group for comparison, random allocation of sample into experimental and control group, which makes it as a true experimental study.

The implications for convenient sampling are the reseacher selects a sample which is assessible during the data collection process. It is a nonprobability sampling method. In convenience sampling, the first available primary data source will be used for the research without additional requirements. This sampling method involves getting participants wherever we find them and typically wherever is convenient. It is inadequate in generalize the findings. Findings can be used to confidently make conclusions about the sample that was selected.

The difference between quantitative and qualitative research designs are>

  1. Quantitative Reseach uses numerical data and facts which is measuable by using statistical methods whereas qualitative research uses understanding of human and social sciences to find the human behaviour by using verbactim.
  2. Quantitative research finds the relationship between the study variables whereas qualitative finds the holistic nature of the study
  3. Quantitative uses objective approach whereas qualitative uses subjective approach.
  4. In quantitative, reasoning is inductive and in qualitative it is deductive
  5. In quantitative hypothesis can be tested but in qualitative hypothesis can be geneated
  6. In quantitative research, stuctued data collection methods can be used like suvey, questionaire etc . In qualitative method, nonstuctured techniques like indepth inteviews, group discussions etc can be used.
