Cirrhosis is the irreversible scaring of the cells mainly seen in the liver that can impair the hepatic functioning of the body.

Cirrhosis can be caused due to various factors such as,

• Chronic alcohol abuse
• Infections of the liver such as Viral Hepatitis B and C
• Fatty Liver
• Predisposing factors such as genetics
• Obesity and consumption of highly fatty and unhealthy diet
• Unhealthy lifestyle

Some of the options available in the treatment of liver cirrhosis are

• Living a healthy lifestyle would help in doing some damage control. this would involve a healthy diet and reduction in the consumption of alcohol.
• Antiobiotics to treat the infections which is caused secondary to liver cirrhosis
• Beta blockers to treat the portal hypertension caused as a result of liver cirrhosis.
• Avoid taking medications unnecessarily since most medications metabolise in the liver.
• Extreme cases would require liver transplant when the damage to the liver is extensive and all the other options fail to give a positive result.
