This chapter has been discussing the importance of oral health. According to recent research by the American Dental Association, public health dentistry programs need to begin in early childhood education. Therefore, there have been proposals to put dental programs in the early grades of public schools. Children would have dental care provided in the schools at little to no cost.

Evaluate the pros and cons of this proposal, and determine whether you think this would be an effective strategy.

Answer #1

Before discussing the pros and cons of the project let us first discuss what is oral health. World health organisation states that oral health's the key indicator of overall health, well being and quality of life.

It is very important to take care of oral hygiene.. it includes steps such as 1. Keep the mouth clean by brushing ur teeth and cleaning the tongue 2. We should visit our dentist regularly for check up ,cleaning and checking up signs for any oral diseases.3.healthy diet must be followed such as limiting sugar and acidic foods.4. Avoiding tobacco products which may cause oral cancer.

The pros and cons are as follows. The pros are , 1.since children learn most of the things from school they learn about oral health and hygiene. 2. By implementing this strategy it is very helpful in inculcating good habits regarding oral care which they can adapt and follow life long. 3. Since oral conditions such as dental Carrie's, starts in childhood it is apt to educate them and prevent such kind of conditions. 4. Through implementation of strategy knowledge of the students will increase regarding oral health and antisocial activities such as smoking and tobacco chewing rate can be reduced.. 5. Since children have the tendency to explain to the family about school activity, they definitely will tell others about oral health and hygiene. 6. Conducting oral check up is an good option because children refuse to go to checkups in clinics.. hence dental checkups can be done in the school ..

The negatives of strategy are as follows.1. Dental checkups for the kids in school require proper scheduling and it's time consuming too.2. Parents opinion is required for their child checkup.3. Proper dentist must be arranged in order to carry on check up... 3. Teaching must done in such a way that students understand it clearly.

I think that this is an effective strategy since the negatives of this strategy can be avoided by proper planning, scheduling and implementing.
