As a nurse practitioner , I should first assess the patients pulse oximetry , respiratory pattern , level of consciousness to ensure adequate oxygen therapy . Then assess the oxygen therapy equipment ,it's connection , whether it is set at correct rate or not ,is there any leakage and also assess for other causes that is causing shortness of breath .After knowing the cause of I will inform the physician and then make the changes to the flow rate according to the physicians order .
