Living will is one form of advance directive ,legal written document that allows individuals to decide what life saving measures they want if they are unable to make decisions.The living will is only used at the end of life if a person is terminally ill or permanently unconscious.The living will describes the type of medical treatment the person would want or not want to receive in these situations.It can describe under what conditions an attempt to prolong life should be started or stopped.

Nurses play important role in promoting Living will advance directive .Nurses must understand the history and nature of advance directives to help patients make informed decisions prior to crisis.Nurses must be able to answer questions asked by patients and family members and clarify confusing and conflicting information.If the patient becomes incapacitated and has appointed a healthcare surrogate to make decisions,nurses must confer and support the healthcare surrogate with decision making .

Advance Practice Nurse:-

Nurse practitioner usually see patients in OPD setting.

Certified nurse midwives provide prenatal care for expecting mothers throughout pregnancy.

Nurse Anesthetists work in the surgical operation room ,providing patient care during surgery.

Clinical Nurse specialist often work as part of a multidisciplinary medical care team.

Nurse educator give training to the nurse and educate them on new advance about the healthcare.
