Answer #1

4. Heparin 1400 units / hour + 150 units / hour = 1550 units/ hour

Required dose in volume = required dose \times available drug in ml \div available dose

                                         = 1550 \times 500 \div 25000

                                         = 31

The required flow rate is 31ml/ hour

5. Dopamine 9 mcg/kg/min

Patient weight = 216 pounds = 98 kgs

Dopamine 9 \times 98 = 882 mcg/min

Medication is supplied in 400 mg/500 ml = 400000mcg/500 ml (to convert mg to mcg multiply with 1000)

Required dose in volume = required dose \times available drug in ml \div available dose

                                        = 882 \times 500 \div 400000

                                        = 1

The required flow rate is 1ml/min

6. Supplied medication is 800 mg/500ml

Dose in 1 ml = 800 \div500

                    = 1.6 mg/ml

The patient receiving a dose per hour = 27 \times 1.6

                                                            = 43.2 mg/hr

To get dose per minute = 43.2 \div60

                                     = 0.72 mg/min = 720 mcg/min

To get dose per kg body weight = 720 \div68

                                                   = 10.6

The IV is running with 10.6 mcg/kg/min
