Answer #1

Since fever is considered a host defense response ,treatment is somewhat controversial..Decisions to treat fever should be made after weighing the benefits of host defense associated with fever versus the host ability to tolerate the cardiopulmonary demands created by the fever.

The following interventions are done

  • Monitoring the temperature every q4H.
  • Administer acetaminophen as ordered.
  • Control environmental temperature and amount of clothing and blankets.
  • Assess neurological signs.
  • Monitor WBC,Hgb and Hct.
  • Monitor for insensible water loss.
  • Monitor intake and output.
  • Blood culture and sensitivity is investigated.
  • if positive antibiotics are started
