Question: What arguments can you think of for and against the idea that Wilder Penfield's electrical brain stimulation evoked memories?

Finally, Penfield's research on epilepsy and sensory imaging led him to more uncharted territory, specifically memory and sensation study. Like he did with his epilepsy diagnosis, Penfield experimented with temporal lobe stimulation, which is responsible for the transmission of visual memories, speech, and feelings, among other items. Penfield found that the patient encountered a number of unusual things, such as auditory hallucinations and unpleasant smells, when the temporal lobe was stimulated.

Penfield observed a strange trend in patients in his work on the stimulation of the temporal lobe in which they would recall an event from their history, yet they could not remember when or where it occurred.
