The medical management for pain relief which included codeine cannot be used for RS as he was determined to have the genetic type CYP2D6 with diplotype *5/*5 in his pharmacogenomics test.

According to Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC), RS has poor metabolism for codeine due to absence or decreased enzyme activity resulting in low morphine formation after codeine administration. This leads to poor or lack of pain relief.
