In a one-component system, is the condition P = 2 represented on a phase diagram by an area, a line or a point? How do you interpret this value of P?

In phase rule F = C-P+2

Where F is number of degree of freedom

C= Number of components

P = Number of phases

So for one component system

F = 1 - 2 + 2 = 1

So it's a monovariant system.

A monovariant system is represented on phase diagram through a line while point represent non - variant system and area represent bivariant system.

It means two phases ( P = 2 ) simultaneously exist over a line in equilibrium.while monovariant ( F = 1 ) means only one variable ( either pressure or temperature ) is sufficient to define state of a system.
