3. CH​​​​​3 Cl + CH​​​​​3 ONa = CH​​​​​3 O CH​​​​​3 + NaCl

In the above reaction, In aqueous medium, the reaction proceeds and gives the products.

But in hexane it doesn't.

First of all, we have to see the interaction of solvent in this case. As water is a polar protic solvent , it solvates and creates the ion for reaction.

CH​​​​​3​​​​ONa = CH​​​​​3 O​​​- + Na+

CH​​​​​3 Cl = CH​​​​​3​+ + Cl​​​​​-

But, Hexane is non polar solvent, it cannot initialize the reaction.
