CASE STUDY 1:

1) Nutrition is an essential components during pregnancy. Inadequate intake of proper nutrition will leads to increased health risk to both mother and the baby. Improper dietary intake of nutrition during pregnancy causes low birth weight infant, gestational diabetes, anemia. The two important minerals to be increase in diet includes: Folate and Vitamin B12.

Folate is important in DNA formation. Inadequate dietary intake of folate will results in improper division and replication of cells. It will also results in neural tube defects in the infant. Folate deficiency causes destruction of red blood cells. During pregnancy the woman's folate requirement increases to three fold.

Vitamin B12 is also an essential element for the neurological development for the growing fetus. Lack of dietary Vitamin B12 causes unexplained fatigue,palpitations during pregnancy.

2) Nutrients and minerals are important during pregnancy in order to support the developing fetus. During pregnancy the energy demand increases as mother has to meet the nutritional need of her fetus too. Balanced diet rich in vitamins,minerals,proteins ,carbohydrates are essential. Maintaining healthy weight during pregnancy is also essential to prevent gestational diabetes.During the second and third trimester an additional calories is needed.

3) The dietary supplement to be added in the baby diet includes: Vitamin D, Vitamin K, Vitamin B12, Iron, calcium.

CASE STUDY 2:

1) Cancer refers to a group of disease that involves in abnormal proliferation of normal cells. Cancer treatment causes various side effects like nausea and vomiting. It will hinders the normal nutritional intake and absorption. Loss of appetite is normal concern for all patients on chemotherapy. In case of anorexia the patents can increase the protein intake, reduce intake of liquids during a meal, eating small frequent meals, involving in some activity that improves the appetite, oral hygiene is encouraged as it removes the metallic taste that results from the chemotherapeutic drugs.

2) Macrobiotic diet comes under alternative diet therapy for cancer. It mostly encourages to eat vegetarian based diet and to avoid foods rich in toxins. This kind of diet reduces inflammatory process and helps in cell repair.
