Sol: Non-academic sources like newspapers, magazines and youtube videos are not written by academic researchers but are aimed for the readership for general public, meaning a lot of times the genuine material is spiced up very often to attract greater readership. The authors may not be experts in the topics they are writing about and will probably not have researched them in depth.

Most of the non-academic materials I have come across have been inaccurate, biased and out of date. Relying solely on non-academic sources, and failing to understand that the information they contain is not the same as that from the academic sources, is detrimental for the writer and diminishes the writer's credibility.
