Research is a systematic process of finding new facts and ideas in a controlled environment . The two major research approaches are qualitative and quantitative approach.
1) Qualitative : It is the process of finding new phenomena. It involves in generating hypothesis using inductive reasoning. The purpose is to gain insight and to understand new phenomena by collective collection of narrative data.
Quantitative: It involves in collection of numerical data. It involves in testing hypotheses and involves in deductive reasoning.
2) Qualitative : It is an holistic approach and is of more subjective. The researcher involves in collecting data from the participants using various data collection. It is process oriented.
Quantitative: It is of objective in which the researcher observes the effectiveness of intervention and it is of outcome oriented.
3) Qualitative : Review of literature is done on a limited basis.
Quantitative : An extensive review of literature is done by the researcher.
4) Qualitative: Sampling is done on a small group. It is not needed to include entire population into the study. Instead a limited subsets of the population meeting the research criteria can be included into the research process.
Quantitative: Random sampling techniques are used to select large representative of population. The research findings must be generalized to all population.
5) Qualitative : Non standardized methods of measurement are used. The findings are on narrative form.
Quantitative : Standardized test are used and the findings are described on numerical form.
6) Qualitative: Purposive ,convenience sampling is used to select the samples meeting the research characteristics.
Quantitative: Randomization is done in which all samples are selected by giving equal chances to participate in the study. Sampling techniques like simple random sampling, stratified random sampling, systematic sampling, cluster sampling are used.
7) Qualitative: Research designs includes grounded theory, ethnographic, narrative, historical, case study.
Quantitative : Research designs includes descriptive, correlational, causal and comparative.
8) Qualitative: Data collection methods includes interview, administration of questionnaires that is open ended type to all participant of the study.
Quantitative :Data collection methods like semi structured questionnaire, interview techniques are used.
9) Qualitative data: Raw data are narrated as description.
Quantitative data: Raw data are in forms of numbers.
10) Qualitative data: It does not use any statistical process to draw conclusions.
Quantitative data : It uses statistical inferences paired t test, correlation of coefficient, chi square and z test.
