A pH meter is used to determine the acidity or alkalinity of the solution.   

pH meter measure the voltage between two electrodes and display the result converted into the corresponding pH value.

Buffer solution is used in pH meter to calibrate pH meter because they can resist changes in pH.Buffer solutions have a working pH range and capacity which dictate how much acid or base can be neutralized before pH changes and the amount by which it will change.
