Coding forms the basis for the financial security of a healthcare organization. It is essential to follow the coding policies and guidelines by coders for the following reasons

  • To avoid error
  • To prevent patient being overcharged or by prevent healthcare industry or professionals overcharge
  • Reimbursement is made easy
  • Can be used for training,research, public health can be tracked and necessary changes can be done

The coding guidelines are categorized briefly in 4 and used in medical field

Section I:covers the structure and convention of classification

Section II:it covers guidelines for non outpatient settings

Section III:covers additional diagnosis of non out-patients

Section IV:Covers outpatient coding and reporting
